Year 1 Trip to West Midlands Safari Park

Dear Parents/Carers,

Unfortunately due to staff illness we are unable to run the trip to West Midlands Safari Park this Thursday. However we have managed to move the trip to the following Thursday (July 7th). Just a reminder that we will need the children to be at school by 8.40 at the latest (Y1 doors will open at 8.30), so that we can leave as close to 8.50 as possible. This means that Mrs Gallant/Mrs Simpson’s class will have their forest school session this Thursday.

Thank you

Year 1 Team

Have a great weekend.

Hello everyone,

This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed the start of Forest school. They came back to class really enthused about their escapades in this session. It was lovely to hear!

English – the children have been writing about the story ‘ Meerkat Mail’. They have been writing about the main character’s visits to different places making sure that they use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Phonics – ‘ul’ sound in ‘il’, ‘al’, ‘le’ and ‘el’. Please see your child’s phonics folder.

Maths – the children have been making equal amounts and counting in groups.

Geography – we have been comparing the physical features in Mt. Kenya National Park with those in Telford.

Science – the children have been classifying and sorting animals into groups.

The children will have writing homework this week which will come home in their homework book. Please get the children to write in full sentences using a pencil. They need to remember to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Please remember to send in your child’s sandwich choice for the school trip if not done so already.

Have a great weekend.

Forest School Sessions

Dear Parents/Carers,

Just a reminder to ensure that all Forest School consent forms are returned please by tomorrow. We have put a slip into the home-school links book today letting you know if your child will be doing the morning or afternoon session on their day.

Miss Davis/Mrs Thomas         Wednesdays

Mrs Simpson/Mrs Gallant        Thursdays

Thank you

Mrs Thomas/Miss Davies class

I hope you are all enjoying a lovely sunny weekend.

I just wanted to send a message to say how proud I was of the children on Friday. They all looked absolutely fabulous in their outfits depicting the 2000 decade. I was equally impressed with those children who stood up and shared information about key people in this decade. They were so confident! Well done all and parents, thank you for all your hard work too!

Our Proud Clouds are in need of a bit of updating too so if you have any proud moments of your child, please could you send them in. Thanks in advance.

On Monday the children will come home with their group for their Forest school lesson which will be on Wednesday so please look out for this in their bag.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Mrs Thomas

Year 1 weekly catch up

It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the May half term and to hear all their news. We hope that you all had a great time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! We even had a special visitor visit us on Thursday with a gift that the children came home with yesterday. Ask your child who it was!

The children are now into their final term of Year 1. We have been so proud of them completing their National Phonics Assessment Check this week. They certainly did us all proud!

In maths, we have been looking at money and it’s value as well as counting coins. Homework this week will come home in their homework book and will be related to work completed in class.

In Geography, we have started our new topic which will be comparing parts of Africa to Telford. This week we looked at maps to show where Africa is situated.

In science, we finished off our work on the seasons by thinking about Summer and how it compares to Spring.

In English, the children wrote some sentences about the Queen.

Next week the children will be starting Forest School. Letters have gone out this week regarding this so please make sure that you have read this and returned the relevant information.

A letter has also gone out this week about our forthcoming trip to the West Midlands Safari. Again please make sure that the slip regarding sandwich choice is returned to school asap.

Have a great weekend.
